I graduated from University of California, Fresno with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. In addition, I graduated from George Mason University with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?I worked with a non-profit group called Technology Youth Empowerment and STEM Camps. I helped them run an after-school STEM program at my school.
What subjects have you taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the past?I worked with Fairfax Collegiate in 2019 and 2020. I taught two writing courses: Writing and Revising 3-4 and Writing Skills and Grammar 5-6.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?I have been a full-time Advanced Academics (formerly known as gifted and talented) teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools for twelve years. As a result of the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) that was passed in 2024, I completed a course that was based on the science of reading and evidence-based literacy instruction. The course was through the University of Virginia.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?I enjoy teaching grammar because it contains the building blocks of writing, and I enjoy helping each student find their own voice in writing.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?I enjoy puzzles, exercising, reading, and watching documentaries.
